This full day basket weaving workshop will suit beginner weavers who are interested in making a random sculptural woven vessel from vines and other plant materials. We will use the contemporary technique of free-form or random weaving to make a beautiful pod like shape out of hand-dyed rattan which we will then extend and fill with harvested materials.

In this workshop Harriet will cover: ​
The history of basket making and global techniques ​
Materials & Tools​
Notes on techniques & suppliers
Hand making cordage from plant materials​
Making a base form with rattan.
Infilling the shape with harvested plants from the garden and embellishing it with feathers or remnant fibres​.

PLEASE BRING:

A pair of sharp secateurs
A spray atomiser bottle for water
An apron or old clothing
An old towel
Any favourite feathers, fibres, yarns or ephemera you would like to incorporate
A plastic bag to take your old towel home in.

A generous morning tea platter will be provided.
