This full day basket weaving workshop will suit beginner weavers who are interested in making a random sculptural woven vessel from vines and other plant materials. We will use the contemporary technique of free-form or random weaving to make a beautiful pod like shape out of hand-dyed rattan which we will then extend and fill with harvested materials.
In this workshop Harriet will cover:
The history of basket making and global techniques
Materials & Tools
Notes on techniques & suppliers
Hand making cordage from plant materials
Making a base form with rattan.
Infilling the shape with harvested plants from the garden and embellishing it with feathers or remnant fibres.
A pair of sharp secateurs
A spray atomiser bottle for water
An apron or old clothing
An old towel
Any favourite feathers, fibres, yarns or ephemera you would like to incorporate
A plastic bag to take your old towel home in.
A generous morning tea platter will be provided.
